MGGA – Principles of Animation 11 – Solid Drawing – S2L32

Description

Principles of Animation

https://www.evl.uic.edu/datsoupi/251/docs/12AnimationPrinciples.pdf

As you experiment with both Blender and drawing, there will be some realizations that you will realize and start working towards. First, blender only knows how to make straight lines. It doesn’t do curves with each edge. So by drawing things as straight lines, you can create drawings that should allow you to easily transfer your characters from a 2d screen to a 3d screen.

And once you master characters, environments can be similarly changed into the same kinds of line art and recreated in Blender as well – just bring in a picture and then start modelling each component based upon lines you see in the picture.

Exaggeration allows animators and game developers to have fun with their audience and create really funny and entertaining content. The more you exaggerate the more natural an animation looks compared to when you just go completely stiff in your animations.

As my old martial art sensei said, make big movements, be energetic, go it with all your might.

MGGA – Blender Lesson 9 – Let’s Animate with Blender – S2L28

Full Video –

Today, we’re getting into some of the good stuff. We’re about animate our planets and our ship. I’m going to show you 3 types of animation. Type 1 – animating an object, the planet Earth, to simulate a 24-hour day. I’m going to also animate the planets going around the sun, by animating the parents of our planets. And finally, I am going to animate the ship going from the Earth to Mars using a Bézier curve.

Timing is everything. You need to make sure that you can create the proper sense of speed so that your audience believes the animation is doing. Attacks can be so slow it looks like you’re hitting someone with a wet noodle, so you need to make sure it is strong and reads.
