Today, we learn some important aspects of computer animation, such as the concepts of tweening – which is how a computer uses easing in and easing out animation to create some smooth movements.
We also learn how to use variables and if and then statements to ensure that only the right animations play at the right times.

MGGA – Principles of Animation 6 – Ease in and Ease out – S2L18

Full video –

Principles of Animation

https://www.evl.uic.edu/datsoupi/251/docs/12AnimationPrinciples.pdf

Today we’re going to learn one of the biggest principle of animation – ease in and ease out. All kinds of animations have ease in and ease out, where the animator slows the initial movements of an animation, speed up the central part and slow the termination of the action.

Whether it is computer animation programs doing that for you, or artists drawing more drawings at the beginning and end, with few drawings in the middle of the animation, this is an important principle to follow.

MGGA – Codea Lesson 1 – Welcome to Codea – S2L17

Codea

Up until now, I’ve been teaching the basics, teaching definitions and talking about ideas – to let your own imaginations go wild. Today, that changes, because we’re actually going to be using a gaming and programming engine right now, Codea.

While it definitely doesn’t have the sophistication of more advanced gaming engines like the Unreal engine or Unity, it does pack a lot of power for people, if they want to learn game development and programming.

Today, I’m going to show you around Codea, and I’m going to setup our first programmable cutscene, so we can get the kind of practice to hone our skills as programmers and game developers.

Thanks for watching and making gaming great again!

MGGA – Principles of Animation 5 – Follow Through and Overlapping Actions – S2L15

Full Video –

Principles of Animation

https://www.evl.uic.edu/datsoupi/251/docs/12AnimationPrinciples.pdf

Follow Through and Overlapping action is all about the laws of physics and how materials things affect each other. Whether it is long hair stretching down as you are running, being pulled by gravity, or butts wiggling as a woman steps down, or Loki’s cloak taking a few frames to catch up to him as Hulk is smashing the puny god!

Follow through is all about taking a pose or two for things to catch up as someone stops moving, and overlapping action is how things tend to do things as you start moving, falling behind for a little bit. This is vitally important to create realism in our art and animations.

MGGA – Virtual Coder For Loops – S2L5

Full Video –

Virtual Coder – Sumerian – https://77a9c4b3cc4c4eafb8470b204dbd7aca.us-east-1.sumerian.aws/

Introduction to For Loops –

https://www.bitchute.com/video/uecTQDBZ38VJ/

This is the second of three Virtual Coder lessons, and this is their levels to teach for loops. For Loops are segments of code where you repeat the code within it the number of times defined by i in the code – if i = 3 it repeats 3 times, if i = 10, then it repeats 10 times.

It helps reduce the amount of coding you need to do if you need to repeat the same command more than once in a pattern.

Today’s lesson goes through levels 6 to 8 in Virutal Coder, with my explanation of what this works or why it doesn’t work for deliberate mistakes.
